The Shanghai Jazz Club
Shanghai jazz is a clever blend of classic Chinese music and American jazz, that brings us back to the days of cheongsam-clad chanteuses in old Shanghai. The Shanghai Jazz Club, with its dedication to the nostalgia of yesteryear inspired by the original Shanghai “Peace Hotel”, performs special arrangements of tunes popularised by the golden voices of 1930s China. Since its founding in 2013 by Singaporean composer/arranger Felix Phang, the band has played to full houses at the former Sing Jazz Club, Montreux Jazz Cafe (Singapore), Esplanade (Singapore), and festivals across Singapore. The band performs as a quintet fronted by Jazz Association Scholar, LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence recipient & Mandarin Pop / Jazz crossover vocalist Dawn Wong.
